Germany has renewed the record of share of power generated from solar batteries. On June 9, 2014 23.1 GWt power from photo cells was transmitted to the national power network, which constituted 50.6% of daily consumption, reported the Institute of Solar System Society Fraunhofer ISE.
Earlier Germany was considered among the world leaders generating nuclear power (140 TW/hour a year), but after the accident in Fukusima in 2011 the government has decided ro shutdown the nuclear plants. Eight stations have been immediately closed and the remaining ones are planned to be closed till 2022.
Now Germany leads in generation of renewable power. The number of power stations installed in the country equals to the number in the remaining world countries. US generates only 0.2% of power from the sollar batteries.
About 90% of all solar panels in Germany are located on the roofs of the houses. They are also installed in small villages, at the farms, plants and administrative buildings, especially in the private sector. The modern architects also design the houses with the roofs overlooking the south.
Germany’s experience proves that the renewable sources of power could cover a significant part of requirements of such a big country. Generation of solar power is seasonal, but it can be combined with wind installations, which ensures a stable flow. Unfortunately, this has a side effect: price of power in Germany is the highest in Europe. Almost 7 million households in the country spend 10% of even more of their income to pay for electricity and the experts call it “power poverty,” when people are forced to save on small items and even deny themselves something.
