This year Iran plans to begin natural gas deliveries to Iraq on the Iranian calendar (started on March 21), Fars agency quoted Iranian Deputy Minister of Oil Ali Majedi as saying.
Majedi said that the deal on Iranian gas export to Iraq has been closed. “The Iranian-Iraqi export pipeline is currently under construction,” he said and added that gas export to Iraq will begin this year, considering progress at the talks.
Iran and Iraq have signed the agreement to build the pipeline, which will be used to deliver Iranian gas to supply power stations in the Iraqi southern province of Basra. In the future Iran will consider possibility of expanding of geography of gas deliveries via the pipeline to Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
