British Petroleum will be able to take part in the tenders in the US. British company has reached an agreement with the US regulator and has committed itself to observe strict safety regulations during the operations.
For the first time since November 2012 BP will be able to take part in the bids for the US government contracts, reported Reuters agency. BP has obtained this permission on Thursday, when the oil and gas company has reached an agreement with the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
According to the agreement, which was signed for five years, BP will be able to sign deals for drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico and resume the deliveries for the US army and other governmental institutions. Because of the accident on Deepwater Horizon oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, which took lives of 11 people, tons of oil have spilled into the ocean and BP was deprived of the right to conclude new contracts in the US.
At the end of 2012 EPA released a statement, which read, that the decision was made “because of the BP’s insufficient conscientiousness and the company’s behavior after the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform, oil spill and the actions taken by the company.” In order to be able to take part in the bids, the company had to meet the demands of strict safety regulations during the operations.
