Gas production in the European Union decreased by 3% in 2017 compared to 2016 against the background of growing consumption. This is stated in the quarterly report on European gas markets of the European Commission.
“In 2017, gas production in the EU amounted to 128 bcm, which is 3% less than in 2016,” the document says.
Demand for gas in 2017 reached 491 bcm in the EU, an increase of 6% against 2016. This was the highest level since 2010, the report says.
Import in the past year amounted to about 360 bcm, which is 10% more than in 2016. The account for the import of “blue fuel” in the EU for 2017 grew by almost 30% and is estimated at 75 billion euros.
In 2017, the EU’s import of LNG was 12% higher than in 2016, the document says. Qatar was the largest LNG supplier to the EU (41%), followed by Nigeria (19%) and Algeria (17%). The USA accounted for 4% of imports of this type of fuel.
