Swiss Transocean company will pay $211 million to the victims of oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, TACC reported quoting lawyers of the victims. The agreement was reached by the sides on May 20, 2015.
In April 2010 the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon owned by Transocean, where BP has been drilling Macondo well, took lives of 11 people. The oil spill was stopped only after 87 days and according to the local authorities 4.9 million barrels of oil has been spilled into the Gulf. This was the biggest environmental accident in the US history.
In 2014 the New Orleans court decreed that BP bears 67% of responsibility for the accident, Transocean 30% and another US Halliburton, which had to cement the oil well – 3%, BP has already paid compensations worth about $28 billion.
