US welcomes efforts and initiatives of Azerbaijan aimed at diversification of gas deliveries to Europe, Amos Khokstein, special representative of the US Department of States for International Energy Affairs, said at a press conference in Baku on February 12, 2015.
“US has established a close cooperation with Azerbaijan in many fields, including energy safety,” he said.
Khokstein said the issue of energy safety of Europe has been discussed at the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
“We welcome the efforts, initiatives and the projects, which Azerbaijan has been implementing to diversify gas deliveries to Europe,” he said.
Khokstein added that it is important who supplies gas via the new routes.
“In the future we will, possibly, create the interconnector Greece-Bulgaria for Bulgaria to receive certain volume of gas through this corridor. US also hopes that in time the similar interconnectors will connect Bulgaria and Hungary and even Serbia, which will allow diversifying the gas supplies to Europe in general,” he said.
