”If the sanctions against Iran are lifted, we would like to restore our business ties with this neighboring country. At present Russia is in the same situation. Azerbaijan is Iran’s closest neighbor and it has attractive geopolitical situation and when the sanctions are lifted, we would like to be the first partners. I do not think we will stay neutral,” Arzu Azimov, Managing Director of SOCAR Trading, daughter company of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), said in his interview to Swiss daily L’Agefi.
Asked about the current slump of oil prices, Director of SOCAR Trading said “if the traders decided to reduce oil prices, then it will be very difficult to change this tendency.”
“I hope price of crude oil is not as low, as some experts show in their estimates. The market always can react to the political events in the world and it is very hard to forecast anything here,” Azimov explained.
Speaking about other projects of the company, Azimov said that SOCAR Trading has been working on various projects related to the exploration works on the gas fields and is also involved in the infrastructure projects for gas production and electric energy generation.
* SOCAR Trading was established in 2008 in Geneva, it sells 75% of Azerbaijani oil (20 million barrels a month) as well as gas and LNG (liquefied natural gas). SOCAR Trading has its representations in Singapore, Dubai, London, Monaco and Istanbul. Its headquarters is based in Geneva with 120 employees.
