Kazakhstan needs to build a new oil refinery to be independent of instability of world oil prices, said Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Thursday during the national television bridge devoted to the Industrialization Day.
“We need to build a new oil refinery to manufacture more final products,” said President after beginning of start-and-adjustment works to build the deep oil refining complex at the Atyrau oil refinery.
The Atyrau oil refinery was put into operation on September 8, 1945. The first product of the refinery was gasoline. The initial capacity of the oil refinery was 800,000 tons of oil a year.
The complex for manufacture of aromatic hydrocarbons was built as a part of implementation of the state program of forced industrial-innovative development of Kazakhstan between 2010 and 2014.
The project envisages implementation of two main technological objects: installation of catalytic reforming with regular regeneration catalyst and the bloc to extract benzole and installation to manufacture of aromatic hydrocarbons.
The owner of 99.5% shares of the Atyrau oil refinery is KazMunaiGas (KMG) joint stock company (JSC) Refining and Marketing, which is a 100% daughter company of KMG.
At present Kazakhstan has three oil refineries – Shimkent, Pavlodar and Atyrau.
