The goal of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is to ensure refining of 7.5 million tons of oil at the Heydar Aliyev oil refinery till 2030, David Mammadov, SOCAR Vice President for Refining, said at the XXI Caspian Oil and Gas-2014 conference.
He added that this will allow producing 3 million tons of diesel fuel, 2.4 million tons of gasoline, 630,000-650,000 tons of aviation fuel, 350,000 tons of bitumen and 100,000 tons of liquefied gas. This will allow satisfying the country’s need in quality fuel and exporting a small volume. “In 2018 we will be able to start production of Euro-5 standard petrol, owing to upgrade of the oil refinery,” SOCAR Vice President said.
At present SOCAR has two oil refineries – Heydar Aliyev and Azerneftyag. Only Heydar Aliyev oil refinery produces fuel. Partial repair and upgrade of the oil refinery has been conducted recently.
According to SOCAR’s plans, in 2015 Baku’s Garadag region will start construction of a new petrochemical and oil refining complex with the capacity of about $14 billion. The new oil refinery with the capacity of 10 million tons is planned to be put into operation in 2023.
