Overview
A Subsea Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of equipment and systems used in offshore oil and gas production beneath the sea. The role involves ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of subsea infrastructure such as pipelines, wellheads, risers, and control systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop subsea systems, including wellheads, manifolds, flowlines, risers, and control systems.
Plan and supervise installation, commissioning, and testing of subsea equipment.
Monitor and troubleshoot operational performance of subsea systems.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Support maintenance activities and provide solutions for repairs or upgrades.
Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and project reports.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including drilling, production, and project engineers.
Provide technical input during procurement and vendor selection processes.
Participate in risk assessments and develop contingency plans for offshore operations.
Contribute to innovation and improvement of subsea technology and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Marine, or Subsea Engineering (Master’s preferred for senior roles).
Strong knowledge of offshore oil and gas production systems.
Proficiency in CAD and subsea design software.
Understanding of materials, hydraulics, control systems, and corrosion management.
Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex offshore environments.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Willingness to work offshore or travel internationally when required.
Experience
Entry-level roles: internships or exposure to offshore projects beneficial.
Mid/Senior roles: 3–10+ years of experience in subsea engineering, offshore operations, or related fields.
