Hungary’s largest oil operator MOL Group has taken delivery of a crude cargo from Azerbaijan, the first shipment following an agreement signed earlier this year aimed at boosting imports of Azeri crude from the BP-operated Shah Deniz offshore field.
MOL said that 92,000 tonnes (687,000 barrels) of Azeri Light blend crude oil were delivered to a terminal in the Croatian port of Omisalj on the Adriatic coast having departed from the Ceyhan terminal in Turkey.
Ceyhan is the end point of the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil export pipeline from Azerbaijan, while Omisalj is the starting point for the Adria pipeline that runs from Croatia to Hungary.
According to a press release issued by MOL, the cargo was transported aboard the Croatia-flagged tanker Dugi Otok. The vessel discharged the crude on 14 June, according to marine traffic tracking websites, which was then pumped into the Adria pipeline.
