A second exploration well will be drilled at the Shafag-Asiman offshore structure, according to Gordon Birrell, Executive Vice President of Production and Operations at BP.
Report informs that speaking at a press conference during the 30th Baku Energy Forum, Birrell stated:
“Several years ago, BP and SOCAR jointly drilled a well and discovered a gas reservoir at Shafag-Asiman. After analyzing the data, we now believe the reservoir could be larger than initially estimated. Therefore, a second well is necessary to confirm this. If our expectations are met, a development program will be designed, and gas production will commence.”
Birrell also noted that Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), a long-standing and trusted partner of BP and SOCAR in the Caspian region, has shown strong interest in the project.
“TPAO has now officially joined the partnership with BP and SOCAR. Together, we plan to drill the second well. Again, if the reservoir proves to be more extensive, this will pave the way for the full development of the field,” he added.
