The Kazakh tanker Taraz with Kashagan oil left the port of Aktau for Baku. The oil will then be transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline system to the Mediterranean Sea. KMG Kashagan BV is the exporter.
This step contributes to the further development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route. In 2022, a general agreement on the transit of Kazakh oil was signed between KMG and the state oil company of Azerbaijan SOCAR.
In March 2024, KMG and SOCAR signed an agreement on an increase in oil transit through the territory of the Azerbaijan. The document provides for an increase in supply volumes to 2.2 million tons per year.
