The halt in supplies of Azerrbaijani natural gas to Europe was extended to Jan. 19, according to Azerbaijan Gas Supply Co., as BP continues work to resume operations at the offshore Alpha platform, which was shut last week after a “technical” issue in a pipeline.
Estimated impact on gas flows to Europe will be a reduction of 8.5 mcm/d, according to data on website of Azerbaijan Gas Supply Co.
Work to resume production and exports at Alpha continued as of Tuesday, BP’s Baku office said, without giving details.
Alpha, one of two platforms at Azerbaijan’s largest natural gas deposit of Shah Deniz, was shut down after a technical issue was detected in a subsea condensate pipeline, BP said Jan. 10. The platform provides about 40% of production from Shah Deniz, according to BP data. Rest comes from second platform, Bravo, where production and exports continue: Azerbaijan exports gas to 10 countries in Europe, mostly to Italy, along with neighboring Georgia and Turkey.
