In January-November 2024, Azerbaijan imported 513.5 mcm of natural gas worth nearly $82 million. In the same period of 2023, Azerbaijan imported 2 billion 217.7 mcm of natural gas, the monthly bulletin “Foreign Trade Relations of Azerbaijan,” prepared by the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Based on official statistics, Turan Agency calculated that the average cost of 1,000 cubic meters of imported gas for Azerbaijan was $159.67. In the same period, Azerbaijan exported 1,000 cubic meters of gas at an average price of $323.28.
In the first 11 months of last year, Azerbaijan imported gas from two countries. Gas imports from Turkmenistan amounted to 371.9 mcm, while Azerbaijan also imported Russian gas totaling 141.6 mcm (with a price of $185 per 1,000 cubic meters).
In January-November 2023, Azerbaijan imported 140.3 mcm of gas from Turkmenistan and 800.7 mcm from Russia. Thus, in the first 11 months of last year, Azerbaijan increased its natural gas purchases from Turkmenistan by 2.65 times, while reducing its Russian gas imports by 5.65 times. Russian gas supplies to Azerbaijan were carried out via the Mozdok-Hajigabul pipeline, built in 1982.
The import of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan was carried out through swap deals via Iran.
