Azerbaijan has surpassed all countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Caspian region in the 2024 Energy Transition Index (ETI), compiled by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Azerbaijan ranked 38th among 120 countries with a total score of 60.3, leaving behind all CIS countries and its neighboring states. Among its neighbors, Azerbaijan outperformed Armenia (79th place, 52.7 points), Georgia (56th place, 56.3 points), Türkiye (59th place, 55.8 points), and Iran (102nd place, 49.0 points).
Azerbaijan also outperformed Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan (98th place, 50.1 points), Kyrgyzstan (80th place, 52.7 points), and Tajikistan (71st place, 53.6 points), further confirming its leadership in the Caspian region.
According to WEF, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan did not make it into the World Economic Forum’s ranking.
The global average score, according to WEF, is 56.5 points, which is significantly lower than Azerbaijan’s score.
The leaders of the ranking were North European countries: Sweden ranked first with a score of 78.4 points, Denmark second with 75.2 points, and Finland third with 74.5 points.
According to WEF, most countries show progress in the energy transition. Northern European states lead the ranking, and countries like China and Brazil show significant improvement in their positions.
The 2024 Energy Transition Index provides a comprehensive assessment of the energy systems of countries based on a unified methodology, allowing comparisons and progress tracking.
