BP (the project operator) plans to build a new platform at the “Shah Deniz” field, the head of the communications department of bp-Azerbaijan, Tamam Bayatli told journalists. According to her, the new platform will operate in a fully autonomous mode (without human involvement).
“A completely new compressor platform will be created to collect low-pressure gas from individual layers of the “Shah Deniz” field and transport it to the Sangachal terminal. Low-pressure gas coming from the “Alpha” and “Bravo” platforms will be gathered at the new technical platform, where it will be pressurized and then directed to the Sangachal terminal,” explained the BP representative.
She also mentioned that the project for the new platform would be presented to the public this week, and public hearings on the environmental impact assessment of the construction would be held in the third week of February. The final investment decision will be made this year, Bayatli noted.
It is worth noting that production at the “Shah Deniz” field began on December 15, 2006. According to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, as of January 1, 2025, 236.8 bcm of natural gas and 48.7 million tons of condensate have been extracted from the “Shah Deniz” field.
Gas is produced from two platforms: “Alpha” (within the “Shah Deniz-1” project) and “Bravo” (within the “Shah Deniz-2” project). By the end of 2024, 27.8 bcm of gas and 4.2 million tons of condensate were extracted from the field.
