Southern Gas Corridor does not transport Russian gas to the EU, the European Commission’s (EC) climate and energy representative, Tim McPhee, said in response to unfounded claims directed at Baku regarding Russian gas supplies.
“The Southern Gas Corridor, which supplies markets in the EU, is exclusively connected to Azerbaijan’s gas fields and is not integrated into the broader national gas network of the country. Therefore, no Russian gas is transported to the EU through the Southern Gas Corridor.
According to our data, over the past two years, Azerbaijan has imported less than 1 bcm of Russian gas per year for domestic consumption, while the total gas export from Azerbaijan is around 24 bcm, half of which goes to the EU market. As I have already said, our overall goal of reducing dependence on Russian gas is crystal clear, and the origin of gas imported from Azerbaijan is also completely transparent,” he emphasized during the daily briefing.
