The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) becomes Italy’s second gas supplier. This was stated by the Executive Director of TAP AG Luca Schieppati on September 28 at the Italian Energy Summit IES-2022.

He highlighted the role of the TAP gas pipeline in filling Italy’s gas storage facilities before the onset of winter.

“We are the second Italian source after Algeria, and this is becoming a strategic priority for both Italy and Europe,” Schieppati said.

He noted that since the beginning of its commercial activity on December 31, 2020, Azerbaijan has already supplied 14 billion cubic meters of gas to the Italian market through the TAP gas pipeline. Last year, Italy imported 6.8 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan.

“We are looking for opportunities to further increase the volume of gas supplies via TAP to Europe, the President of Azerbaijan said that next year we will reach the volume of supplies of 12 billion cubic meters,”
Schieppati said.
