The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) hopes to soon open a branch and an office within the framework of the Dostlug project, which will further deepen Azerbaijani-Turkmen cooperation.

This was stated by SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov during a speech at an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

“The Dostlug project is intended to become a platform for the multifaceted expansion of the Azerbaijani-Turkmen cooperation, in which SOCAR plays a special role. I really hope that soon we will be able to open a company office to deepen and expand cooperation with fraternal Turkmenistan,” Nasirov said.

According to him, the signing on January 21, 2021 of the Memorandum of Understanding on the joint exploration, development and development of hydrocarbon resources of the Dostlug field in the Caspian Sea has become a new milestone in the development of bilateral relations in the oil and gas sector.

In turn, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Mekan Ishankuliev said that the agreements on the Dostlug field will serve to strengthen cooperation.

“We hope that this project will give a great impetus to the implementation of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project,” the ambassador said.

He noted that in this way Turkmen gas can enter the European market, which will be of great importance for the development of the country’s energy sector.
