The third turnaround project will be carried out at Kazakhstan’s Kashagan oil and gas field, which is operated by North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), in the summer of 2026, NCOC deputy managing director, Yermek Marabayev, said on Friday.
“This will be the third turnaround project. The first one was implemented in 2019, the second is to be carried out in 2022 and the third will be in 2026. All overhaul projects usually takes place in summer,” Marabayev told Interfax-Kazakhstan on the sidelines of the Oil and Gas Equipment Forum in the capital of Kazakhstan.
In June 2022 the Kazakh project will be shut down for 45 days for a turnaround project, and about 9,000 workers will be mobilized to make major repairs at the onshore and offshore facilities, according to the Forum handouts.
Kashagan is Kazakhstan’s first offshore oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea. It is the largest international investment project in the country. Commercial operation at Kashagan began on November 1, 2016.
NCOC, the operator of the Kashagan project, is owned by KMG Kashagan B.V. (16.877%), Shell Kazakhstan Development B.V. (16.807%), Total EP Kazakhstan (16.807%), Agip Caspian Sea B.V. (16.807%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc. (16.807%), CNPC Kazakhstan B.V. (8.333%), and Inpex North Caspian Sea Ltd. (7.563%).
