According to the results of January-February of this year, the Azerbaijani energy sector consumed more natural gas in order to produce electricity due to several factors, a source in Azerenergy JSC (the state energy department for the production of electricity in Azerbaijan).
Firstly, the generation of marketable electricity at thermal power plants increased by 4.1% over the reporting period, amounting to 6 billion 287.5 million kWh. In addition, the share of electricity produced from gas has reached about 96% of the total volume of marketable electricity.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, in the first quarter of the country’s thermal power plants consumed about 1.4 bcm of natural gas.
SOCAR said in its report that in January-March 2022, 4.8 bcm of blue fuel were supplied to the domestic market of Azerbaijan, which is 9.3% more than in the same period last year.
It should be noted that, according to the results of 2021, 5.1 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to the needs of Azerbaijan’s power engineers.
