Turkey limits the volume of gas consumption for large power plants and industry due to the temporary cessation of supplies from Iran, the pipeline operator Botas reports. It promises to take all measures so that the restrictions do not affect other categories of consumers.
Tehran has stopped gas supplies to Turkey since January 20 due to a gas pipeline failure on the Iranian side. Deliveries have been announced to be stopped for 10 days, and efforts are being made to resolve the problem more quickly.
On January 19, 2022, Turkey updated the gas consumption record – 288 mcm. The previous peak (280 mcm of gas) occurred on January 19, 2021.
According to the results of 10 months of 2021, Iran sent 7.782 bcm of gas to Turkey, providing 16% of fuel imports into the country. Other gas suppliers for the republic are Russia (“Gazprom”) – 48%, Azerbaijan – 16%, LNG from various sources – 20%.
