President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is outraged that not a single new petrochemical plant has been built in the country in the post-Soviet period.

“It is also outrageous that so far we have not been able to build a real, real petrochemistry. We are repairing existing oil refineries that were still built in the Soviet era,” Tokayev said at a meeting with representatives of large businesses on January 21.
“At the same time, neighboring Uzbekistan managed to build 2-3 factories, as they say,” from scratch “, which are nice to look at,” the head of state added.
There are three large refineries in Kazakhstan – Atyrau, Chimkent and Pavlodar. In addition to them, 48 mini-refineries with a capacity of 6.5 million tons are registered in the country.
However, for several years now, the volumes of raw material processing at mini-refineries in Kazakhstan have not exceeded 450,000 tons.
According to the results of 2021, the volume of oil and condensate production in Kazakhstan amounted to 85.7 million tons, oil export – 67.6 million tons, refining volume – 17.1 million tons and oil products production – 13.1 million tons.
