Rosneft started exploratory drilling on the section West-Black Sea Area on the Black Sea shelf. This was announced yesterday by the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin following the meeting of the Board of Directors.
According to Sechin, the resource base on the Black Sea shelf can reach up to 600 million tons of oil and 100 bcm of gas.
The project is implemented jointly with the Italian Eni. Drilling the well is carried out using a modern semi-submersible drilling rig Scarabeo-9. The design depth of the well is 6,125 meters, and the sea depth in the drilling area is 2,125 meters.
Eni is one of Rosneft’s strategic partners in the development of the Russian continental shelf, in particular the Barents and Black Seas. Eni’s share in the joint venture for the Russian shelf development is 33.33%, and Rosneft’s share is 66.67%.
