The Nord Stream-2 project will be implemented, Russia’s permanent representative to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, said for Rossiya-24.
“I personally believe, not because I’m a born optimist, which is part of my profession, but because I know quite firmly – Nord Stream -2 will be implemented,” the diplomat said.
According to him, there are dissatisfied countries that filed lawsuits against Gazprom, namely Denmark and Poland. But the European business and consumers are interested in the project, he said.
It should be noted that on April 24, 2017 Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the Nord Stream-2 project, signed an agreement with ENGIE, OMV, Royal Dutch Shell, Uniper and Wintershall to finance the construction of the gas pipeline.
Five European companies pledge to provide long-term financing in the amount of 50% of the total cost of the project, which is currently estimated at € 9.5 billion. The construction of the gas pipeline, with a capacity of 55 bcm per year, will begin in 2018 and will end in late 2019.
