SOCAR is not in a hurry to extinguish fire on the burning well on the shallow section of Guneshli field, Rovshan Garayev, head of 28 May Oil & Gas Production Department, said in his interview to ANS TV channel.
“We are not in a hurry to extinguish the fire. This is done with the purpose not to harm environment of the Caspian Sea. We need to solve environmental problems, because oil and gas flowing from the well could get into the water. First of all we need to work out the mechanism of collection of this product. Therefore, extinguishing is the secondary issue,” said Garayev.
“He said that SOCAR has invited two US specialists into extinguishing of the fire. They have a great experience in these works. In particularly, they were used in Azerbaijan to extinguish fire on the Bulla Deniz gas field,” added Garayev.
At present as minimum one gas well has been burning.
On December 4, 2015 at 5.40 p.m. the stationary platform No 10 of the 28 May Oil & Gas Production Department has caught fire, because of failure of the gas line. Bad weather conditions have created problems for the rescue ships. 33 out of 66 people that have been on the platform during the accident have been rescued. 30 oilmen have died. Search for 23 more oilmen is going on.
