West is the best market for Azerbaijani oil and gas export, said Azerbaijani Energy Minister Nagit Alike at the III Global Forum of Open Societies in Baku.
“This is the most acceptable direction for Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani energy resources are transported through the countries, which are not our competitors, because they do not have their own oil and gas,” added Alike.
At present Azerbaijan has three export oil pipelines, of which two ones – Baku-Tbilisi-Cayman (Turkey) and Baku-Sups(Georgia) – are located on the west. Azerbaijan also has four export gas pipelines, of which two ones are located in the western direction – Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum (Turkey) and Hajigabul-Gardabani (Georgia). Azerbaijan also has a possibility of gas export to Russia and Iran.
Azerbaijan jointly with its foreign partners is involved in construction of the 3500-km-long Southern Gas Corridor from the Caspian Sea to Italy. For the first time Azerbaijan will become operator of the TANAP gas pipeline outside of its territory.
