“Three Canyons” is the world biggest power station built on the Yangtze river in China with the capacity over 22,500 Mwt (32 generators a year could generate up to 100 billion KWh of power), which is equivalent to about 22 big atomic power stations.
Cost of the project is $28 billion. Construction of the hydraulic power station started in 1992 and its full completion and official launching took place on July 4, 2012.
The Chinese government calls this project a technological breakthrough, while the environment specialists call it a catastrophe.
During the construction over 1.2 million people were forced to change their place of residence, several towns were flooded and damage to ecology is unknown.
However, hardly any power station will surpass Three Canyons ever in the history.
