Raising of the coefficient of recoverable oil by 10-15% would have allowed to significantly increasing oil production on the onshore fields of Azerbaijan, Khoshbakht Yusifzada, SOCAR’s Senior Vice President, said at the I Congress of Azerbaijani Scientists on December 19, 2014.
He said that with the coefficient of oil recovery of 40-45%, 1 billion tons of oil was extracted on the onshore fields. “We could have extracted the same volume, if technological and technical possibilities allowed us,” Yusifzada said.
Vice President added that this means that more attention should be paid to increasing the coefficient of the oil recovery.
SOCAR believes that when oil production declines on objective reasons (the fields are exhausted), increasing oil recovery is one of the efficient methods, reported Trend.
At present oil recovery on the offshore bloc Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) operated by BP is about 50%, while on SOCAR’s fields –about 30% and on the onshore field this index goes down to 20% and in some places is even less than 20%.
