After the 12th session of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission in Tehran on December 16, 2014 Iran and Armenia signed several documents aimed at development of economic cooperation, press office of the Armenian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources told Regnum news agency.
Two documents have been signed – the memorandum on mutual understanding of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission and the memorandum on construction of hydraulic power station in Megri.
Among the energy programs Armenian Energy Minister Zakharian mentioned the program of construction of the 3rd high voltage power line, which will allow increasing carrying capacity of the power lines between Armenia and Iran from 350 to 1200 MWt. The agreement to begin construction in March 2015 and complete it within 18 months has been reached with the Iranian side. According to Zakharian’s estimates, construction of the line will allow increasing power deliveries from Armenia to Iran from the current 1,200,000,000 KWh up to 7 billion KWh.
Another signed document is related to construction of the hydraulic power station in Megri. As has been agreed, the preparation for construction must be completed in October 2015 and then construction of the Megri hydraulic power station will begin, which will last five years.
