Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) approved on Sept. 3 a plan for warning and elimination of oil spills.
SOCAR said that in the near future it will assess the technical condition of the facilities, which have a high probability of oil spills, as well as existing capacities to respond in case of oil spills.
Mechanisms and specific effective measures will be set for the plan’s implementation and to prevent oil spills, to address the oil spill consequences and to carry out environmental restoration.
The plan also provides for the organizing a system of cosmic monitoring.
SOCAR includes three production unions – Azneft (a union of enterprises producing oil and gas on land and sea), Azerkimya (a union of chemical industry enterprises) and Azerigas (a union, which transmits, distributes, and markets natural gas in Azerbaijan).
Aside from that, SOCAR includes a number of processing and service enterprises, and institutions involved in geophysical and drilling operations.
