Iran has put into operation Shoorijeh gas storage on the northeast of Horasan province, IRNA agency reported on Sunday.
Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangane also took part at the opening ceremony.
Shoorijeh gas storage can hold 4.8 billion cub.m. of natural gas. Iran will store gas extracted on the joint gas fields, especially the Southern Pars field.
By present the gas storage already has about 300 million cub.m. of gas.
Iran is the leading country on the Near East on the gas storage volume.
