From January to July 2014 SOCAR exported from Supsa port 1,787,379 tons of Azerbaijani oil via the Baku-Supsa pipeline. Oil export increased by 265,009 tons or by 17.4% against the same period last year.
A source from SOCAR told Caspian Barrel that in July 2013 SOCAR shipped 334,805 tons of Azerbaijani oil from the Supsa port.
A sharp growth of oil transportation via the western route and its shipment from the Supsa terminal is connected with growth of oil production on the Western Chirag platform, which was put into operation on January 29, 2014. At present it produces about 60,000 barrels of oil a day.
Baku-Supsa oil pipeline was put into operation on April 17, 1999. The oil pipeline is 837 km long and its diameter is 530 mm. The pipeline has a carrying capacity of 7.5 million tons of oil a year as a part of the early oil project from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli bloc. Oil extracted from the Chirag field is exported via Baku-Supsa pipeline.
