Nicola Morroni, representative of Italian Eni company and chief of the project, has held presentation of the project of ship building plant in Kuryk town.
Goal of the project is to create a local ship building and repair plant, which will be able to build and repair all types of vessels operating in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea.
The project is a very important industrial object for the Mangistau district, during which it is planned to create new jobs and which will give an impulse to development of business and infrastructure of Karakiyansk region.
The project of construction of ship building and ship repair plant in Kuryk town is implemented as a part of the cooperation agreement between Kazakhstan KazMunaiGas (KMG) and Italian Eni companies.
“We are the only country in the Caspian basin, which does not have its own ship building and repair plant. According to the experts, up to 70 vessels a year will be repaired on the plant and six new ones will be built. At present Kazakhstan has 280 operating vessels of various types.
During implementation of the second stage of Kashagan field and other offshore oil fields, this figure will reach 550. In the future it is planned to open the centre to train engineers and specialists in the ship building sector. 10% shares of the ship building and ship repair plant will be owned by the operator of the project. The operator will manage the plant with further training of Kazakhstan citizens,” said Nurlan Balgimbayev, General Director of KMG.
