Rafig Huseynzada, SOCAR Vice President for Ecology, said at the Caspian Oil & Gas 2014 international conference in Baku.
He said the project envisages creation of the system of strata water processing, which is one of the main problems of the oil and gas industry.
Huseynzada said that the processing system is planned to be launched in Baku’s Garadag region, said SOCAR Vice President.
Huseynzada said that several options of use of refined strata waters are currently under consideration. In particular, after processing the strata waters could be used for watering trees, injection back into the beds and release back into the sea.
She said that during a month it is planned to lay foundation of the new Centre for Utilization of the Oil & Gas Industry Wastes jointly with BP in Baku’s Garadag region.
As oil production on the ACG bloc of fields will grow, the volume of strata waters will grow as well. Water that emerges during the oil production must be removed. This water could cause problems, because of a high content of salt and some organic substances.
About 95% of water separated from oil on ACG fields before its sending to the Sangachal oil terminal will be injected back into the bed. The remaining 5% of water will be separated on the Sangachal oil terminal.
As a part of this project it is planned to build another underwater pipeline to the platform for injection of water and gas on the Central Azeri, via which water is delivered to the field and injected into the bed together with water released into the sea.
