German RWE company has started gas deliveries to Ukraine via Poland, reported Reuters news agecy. The company reported that if limitations in the pipeline are lifted within coming weeks or months, the volume of gas deliveries could be significantly increased.
According to the framework agreement, which is effective till May 2017, RWE could deloiver up to 10 billion cub.m. of gas a year. Earlier Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry said that in 2014 Ukraine will need about 30 billion cub .m. of imported gas and its own production must cover the rest.
Yesterday Ukrtransgas and Polish Gaz-System SA (manages Polish gas transportation system) signed the agreement simplifying registration of daily reverse natural gas deliveries to Ukraine through Germanovichi station in Poland.
“Owing to these changes the procedure of gas import to Ukraine will be significantly simplfied,” explained Andrei Kobolev, chairman of Board of Neftegas Ukraine company.
Total carrying capaity of Germanovichi station towards Ukraine is estimated at 1.5 billion cub.m. a year.
The agreement on the reverse gas deliveries was signed between Neftegas Ukrtaine and RWE in May 2012. In 2013 about 2 billion cub.m. of gas was delivered to Ukraine in the reverse regime from the European counries. In December 2013 Russian Gasprom agreed to reduce price of Russian gas to $268.50 per 1000 cub.m and Ukrained has stopped purchasing gas from RWE.
On April 11, 2014 Yurii Prodan said that RWE will again transport gas to Ukraine. RWE representative Michael Murphy said earlier that the company is ready to begin gas deliveries to Ukraine, if it finds an agreement with the Neftegas Ukraine.
