In March 2014 SOCAR exported 242,053 tons of profitable oil via the Baku-Supsa pipeline. Oil export via the Baku-Supsa increased by 3,787 tons or by 1.6% against the same period in 2013, reported SOCAR.
During quarter 1, 2014 oil export via this route totaled 807,183 tons. This is 7,981 tons or 1% up against January-March 2013.
In February 2013 oil export via this route totaled 242,132 tons and in January 2014 – 322,996 tons.
In 2013 SOCAR exported 2,725,000 tons of profitable oil via the Baku-Supsa pipeline. Oil export declined by 17,000 tons against 2012.
The Baku-Supsa pipeline is used to transport oil extracted from the Chirag field within the framework of the production sharing agreement (PSA) signed between SOCAR and a group of foreign companies led by BP on September 20, 1994.
The pipeline is 830 km long, of which 775 km with the diameter of 21 inches (530 mm) is a new section and 55 km is the rehabilitated pipeline.
The carrying capacity of the pipeline is about 7 million tons of oil a year (140,000 barrels a day). The pipeline operator is BP company.
