Iran and Oman have signed the agreement to deliver at least 10 billion cub.m. of gas a year to Oman, reported IRNA news agency. Iranian Minister of Oil Bijan Namdar Zangane told journalists that the long-lasting and numerous meetings and talks between the sides preceded the agreement and the final decision was made during an official visit of Sultan Kabus to Tehran seven months ago.
The agreement envisages construction of ground and offshore facilities and laying of pipes of the new gas pipeline at the expense of Oman. The costs will be paid off from the future profit from gas sale, which will be supplied to the residents of Oman and the neighboring countries.
The gas pipeline, via which gas will be pumped to Oman, will start on Mesopotamia from the Southern Pars field. The total length of the gas pipeline will be 350 km, of which 200 km will be laid offshore and 150 on the ground.
Iranian Oil Minister said the project is estimated at about $1 billion and its implementation will “take at least three years.” He added that more accurate figures will provided later.
