Russian Transneft company is interested in construction of oil terminals close to the Makhachkala sea port and is going to negotiate with the Summa group, Transneft President Nikolai Tokarev told journalists.
“We would like to have additional capacities on this coast of the Caspian Sea, because Kazakhstan is going to increase production on the Kashagan field, Turkmenistan is looking for the markets for its oil and we have concluded a commercial contract with Azerbaijan. The contract has no political components, which gives us flexibility in negotiations with our partners,” Tokarev said.
“We know there are oil volumes of oil and Summa group has decided to join the talks,” he added.
A source from the Dagestan government told Prime agency earlier that Summa group led by Ziyavud Mammadov is going to build a new oil registration station close to the Makhachkala sea port and transfer its ownership to Transneft. Summa has earlier concluded an agreement with the Makhachkala sea port, which envisages possibility of construction of terminals for all types of cargoes, including bulked cargo.
Makhachkala port is the only non-freezing and deep Russian port in the Caspian Sea. The biggest on the Northern Caucasus oil base with the simultaneous storage capacity of 540,000 cub.m. is located near the port, which is connected with the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline.
