42 kilo of gold was found at the house of Edward Stavizki, Ukrainian ex-Minister of Energy and Coal Industry, Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov posted on his Facebook page.
“42 kilo of gold, $4.8 million in cash, diamond-looking stones in the little bags and 16 expensive watches,” Avakov said. A great number of jewelry with precious stones, a lot of documents for ownership of property, land plots, registration of foreign companies and credit cards have been also found during the search.
“I have got crazy when I have gotten this information. How much a person can steal to leave this “small change” at the house for minor expenses!,” Avakov wrote.
The search has been performed by the Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office while investigating embezzlement of state property by the Energy Ministry’s officials.
Stavizki is accused of misappropriation and embezzlement of property as well as legalization and laundering of illegal profit. Stavizki occupied this position since December 2012. On February 27, 2014 the Supreme Rada has dismissed him from the position of the Minister. Yurii Prodan has been appointed to this position.
On March 21, 2014 employees of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Yevgenii Bakulin, chief of Naftogas Ukraine Board, as a part investigation of corruption in the gas industry, reported RBC.
