Russia and Iran could cooperate during oil exploration in the Iranian sector of the Caspian Sea, Iranian Mehr agency quoted Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Jagarian as saying.
Jagarian said that the Russian oil companies are interested in the projects in Iran. He added if the oil exploration in the Caspian Sea is economically justified, Russia could take part in it jointly with Iran.
Russian Ambassador added that Russia is an independent country and should follow the policy of western countries. He said that Russia is going to increase the volume of trade and cooperation with Iran.
Ambassador also expressed hope that the Russian-Iranian joint economic commission will work out important trade agreements.
In November 2013 Iran and the “Six” (Russia, USA, UK, France, Germany and China) concluded an intermediate agreement, according to which Iran has obliged itself to reduce uranium enrichment by 20% in exchange for partly lifting the economic sanctions. At the end of January 2014 Iran’s representatives said that Iran plans to resume oil shipment by sea, because of weakening of economic sanctions by the western countries.
