By May 2014 Russia and China hope to find an agreement on Russian gas price, press officer of the Russian President Dmitrii Peskov told journalists.
“The talks on the gas price are expected to be finalized by May 2014,” Peskov added.
Price is the main stumbling block, which does not allow finding an agreement on the Russian natural gas deliveries to China and concluding a contract. The basic price of deliveries has not been agreed yet. The formula of the price has been approved within the framework of the main conditions of deliveries signed by Gasprom and CNPC in early September 2013.
The memorandum of mutual understanding on the gas deliveries to China via the eastern route was signed between Gasprom and CNPC in March 2013. Aleksei Miler, Gasprom President, said that Gasprom could receive advance payment for delivery of 38 billion cub.m. of gas a year from China, which will begin in 2018. The deliveries could be increased up to 60 billion, reported Russian Oil.
