Luca Schippati, Managing Director of the TAP AG pipeline company, announced plans to increase the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Italy to 10 bcm in 2022.

“In 2022 alone, we expect to deliver almost 10 bcm to Italy, by 3 bcm more than in 2021,” Shippati told the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.

Earlier, TAP planned to supply up to 9.5 bcm of Azerbaijani gas to the Italian market this year.

He noted that the volume of Azerbaijani gas delivered to Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP) from December 31, 2020, to December 9, already amounted to 18.5 bcm, of which almost 16 bcm came from Italy.

Shippati added that in recent months, the Melendugno receiving terminal in Puglia has been receiving 25-28 mcm of gas daily, because of which Azerbaijan has become the second main supplier of gas to Italy after Algeria. It should be noted that in 2021, Azerbaijan exported 19 bcm of gas, of which 8.2 bcm were exported to Europe, and 6.8 bcm – to Italy.
