The pipeline for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria has been certified

The energy regulators of Bulgaria and Greece have certified the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB), which will transport Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe, and from there to Bulgaria, Bulgaria Today reported.

It is reported that the commercial operation of the interconnector will begin after July 1 this year: “IGB is of strategic importance and allows you to connect the gas transmission systems of Greece and Bulgaria, diversifying gas supplies to Bulgaria and Southeast Europe.”

The publication notes that the interconnector will allow Bulgaria to receive in the second half of 2022 the 1 bcm of natural gas agreed with Azerbaijan in full: “The throughput of the pipeline is 3 bcm and will allow the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the United States, Algeria, Qatar, Egypt , Nigeria, Israel, as well as Cyprus”.

The documents must be approved by the European Commission in accordance with European standards.
