Medvedev promised Europeans a gas price of €2,000
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Europe would have to pay €2,000 per thousand cubic meters of gas due to the suspension of certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
After Russia recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), the German Ministry of Economy was instructed to suspend the certification of the project.
“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz instructed to stop the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Well. Welcome to the new world, where Europeans will soon pay 2,000 euros for a thousand cubic meters of gas!” Medvedev wrote on Twitter.
It should be noted that yesterday the spot gas prices in Europe started at $934.7 per 1,000 cubic meters.
After the recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR, the EU permanent representatives agreed on the adoption of targeted sanctions against a number of Russian citizens and companies.
Germany has decided to suspend the certification of the Nord Stream 2 project. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked for a complete shutdown of the gas pipeline. Britain meanwhile announced the imposition of sanctions against five Russian banks and businessmen Arkady and Boris Rotenberg and Gennady Timchenko. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson did not rule out the expansion of restrictive measures.
