Washington DC does not intend to lift anti-Iranian sanctions, US President Joe Biden said yesterday
“No,” Biden said on CBS News in response to the host’s question, “Will the US lift sanctions to bring Iran back to the negotiating table?”
In addition, Biden replied in the affirmative to the clarifying question: “Should they (the Iranians) first stop enriching uranium?”
Ayatollah Khamenei said earlier on Sunday that if Washington wants Tehran to comply with the commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan, they themselves must return to compliance with the norms of this document and lift anti-Iranian sanctions.
* The plan was adopted in July 2015 by the “six” international mediators (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) and Iran. In 2018, former US President Donald Trump announced his withdrawal from the Iranian deal. A year later, Iran began to phase out its obligations.
