Ashgabat, Tehran Agree to Increase Swap Supplies of Turkmen Gas

Turkmenistan and Iran. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who is in Ashgabat on an official visit, said this yesterday.

Speaking at a briefing on the results of the bilateral high-level talks, the Iranian leader said very effective and beneficial negotiations had been held today. According to the President of Iran, the sides are discussing issues of increasing swap operations and extending the use of existing pipelines for the supply of Turkmen natural gas to third countries.

The head of Iran was also noted at the talks.

“Iran and Turkmenistan are very rich and strong in the energy field, so we are committed to making efforts to bring our partnership to this level to the higher level. will make major agreements in this area, “Hassan Rouhani said.

It should be noted that Turkmenistan started swap gas operations through Iran from the end of October 2016. Turkmenistan transfers its gas to the border areas of Iran, and Iran in turn supplies gas to Azerbaijan. While in 2016 Azerbaijan imported 296 mcm of gas, in 2017 the volume of imports from Turkmenistan through swap operations rose to 1.711 bcm.
