The EU proposes to establish a consortium with the participation of major European energy companies, which can take some time. This was proposed by Maroš Šefčovič, deputy chairman of the European Commission on Energy Union of the EU as part of a quadripartite meeting on gas supplies to Europe held in Turkmenistan, Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Natig Aliyev told reporters on May 13.
“The Turkmen side expressed its interest in supplying its gas to Europe via the Trans-Caspian pipeline,” the minister said. “Turkmenistan is ready to supply 30 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe, however, there are a number of unsolved questions. It is unclear who will build the gas pipeline. The sources of funding, etc. are also unknown.”
