Increasing the volume of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe has been discussed at the first session of the Consultative Council of the South Gas Corridor, Marosh Shefchovich, Vice President of the European Commission on Energy Union, told journalists on February 12, 2015.
“Technically the project is able to deliver 10 billion cub.m. of gas, but this figure could be increased up to 20 billion cub.m. The Shah Deniz field has wide possibilities,” Shefchovich said.
He said Turkmenistan would like to transport gas to the EU, but we need to solve the issue of gas transportation from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan. This means that we have to work on the technical and legal issues.
South Gas Corridor is among the priority energy projects for the European Union. It will help to diversify the routes and sources of energy carries and safeguard energy safety of the EU.
